November 27, 2007 Medina, MN – beadLOCK® announced today that it has developed two new versions of its simple and affordable, patented jig for making loose mortise and tenon joints: beadLOCK® and beadLOCK® Pro.
The new beadLOCK® jig is an upgrade from its previous model, which first came on the market in 2000. The new design adds a drill bit, stop collar and storage case that includes space for related accessories. The PRO version allows users to create wider joints (up to 3-1/2 inches) and includes a paring jig for creating perfectly square, traditional mortises without the need for an expensive mortiser.
Most experts agree that mortise and tenon joints are the strongest and most versatile joints a woodworker can create. Long the domain of professionals using either expensive tools or painstakingly creating them by hand, beadLOCK® makes mortise and tenon joinery easy and affordable at only $29.99. beadLOCK® and beadLOCK® Pro are distributed online and through a nationwide network of fine retail dealers like Rockler Woodworking and Hardware. A complete list of dealers can be found at www.beadlock.com/wheretobuy.htm .
With the beadLOCK® jig, the user simply drills a series of overlapping holes in both sides of a joint and beadLOCK® tenon stock is then inserted in the mortises for a strong, accurate joint that's quick and simple to make.
Standard beadLOCK® tenon stock’s unique shape provides a larger gluing surface in comparison to traditional mortise and tenons. Plus, users can create any mortise depth desired because beadLOCK® and beadLOCK® Pro are only limited by the length of the drill bit being used. If a woodworker can operate a hand drill, he or she is skilled enough to start creating a wide variety of mortise and tenon joints using beadLOCK® or beadLOCK® Pro.
Both versions of the all new beadLOCK® come with a storage case and everything needed to cut 3/8” tenons. Additional ¼” and ½” accessory kits are also available and come in a convenient blow mold storage case.
beadLOCK® Pro includes a heavy duty drilling jig, 3/8” drill bit, 3/8” stop collar, 3/8” beadLOCK® guide block and a 3/8” mortise paring guide block which will allow users to create traditional square mortises which take standard tenon stock. Dan Banasik, who led product development for beadLOCK® , says “We’ve taken an excellent, patented product and made it even better: better accessories, an all new Pro version, and an all new standard kit as well. Anyone who likes joinery or who would like to create better, more advanced, mortise and tenon joinery, will really benefit from the beadLOCK® alternative.”
