Whittier, Calif.—“Each year carpet mills will authorize over 750,000 third party inspections,” noted Carl Williams, president, Academy of Textiles & Flooring (ATF). “They’ll spend $19 million for personnel and supplies to handle these claims. It’s hard to believe the total cost of claims is over $450 million each year.”
With that, Williams announced ATF is offering a six-day inspector course that meets the requirements of the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning & Restoration Certification (IICRC).
“Ten instructors, a six-stop mill tour, hands-on testing and about 40 textbooks round out a busy week,” Williams said. Participants are being encouraged to bring a laptop to the course as well. “We will help you load your new report-writing program, which is included with the class.”
He noted there is a real need within the industry for quality, first-rate inspectors. This is surprising considering “these individuals will be capable of earning significant income doing inspections.” For example, inspectors earn a couple of hundred dollars per report, plus other expenses for their time to get to the site. And, the income increases exponentially when there are corrections to do or forensic testing to be performed.
The week-long course starts Oct. 8, here. “We can make an inspector out of you by Oct. 13,” Williams concluded. “We also offer payment plans and discounts for those who carry other certifications.”
