Article Number: 2403

Since it was founded in the heart of the U.S. Southern Appalachian region in 1985, Mullican Flooring has been driven by a commitment to exceptional product development and innovation, an approach that has reaped significant rewards for Mullican customers.

Headquartered in Johnson City, Tenn., Mullican boasts some of the most knowledgeable, imaginative and resourceful product development specialists in the flooring industry. Just take a look at the line of firsts that the company added to its product offering in 2007:

Frontier Solid Wire Brushed, featuring oak, hickory and walnut plank flooring available in 4- and 5-inch widths. This 3/4-inch solid product offers textured warmth in five colors.

Austin Springs, the company’s first product designed specifically as a floating floor, features the company’s new 5-G easy installation locking system that allows fast, secure installation. Austin Springs offers 22 species and color combinations.

Elk Ridge, Mullican’s first engineered product offered as both distressed and hand-sculpted flooring; and Buckingham, the company’s first beech product, is a prefinished line that features a four-sided bevel.

“Achieving the highest level of customer satisfaction possible by producing a superior product has always been our focus,” said Neil Poland, president. “We have found that customers not only want a quality floor, but they also want a variety of species, colors and widths to choose from.”

Recognized as the nation’s largest producer of 3/4-inch unfinished solid hardwood flooring, Mullican uses lumber from the Appalachian Mountains, which are well known for their prime, slow-growing hardwoods. The Appalachian hardwood forest has been “Verified Sustainable” based on data from the U.S. Forest Service. The company’s line of factory-finished solid flooring is one of the industry’s largest and most comprehensive, featuring hand-sculpted selections, numerous exotic species and engineered flooring.

The company’s line of 3/4-inch, solid handsculpted flooring—called the Chatelaine Collection— is available in 12 colors. Knob Creek, Mullican’s handsculpted selection designed for the builder market, features seven colors and is available in 2 1/4-, 3- and 4-inch widths.

Mullican’s Chatelaine Collection also includes a 6-inch width, available in four species and colors. Mullican has integrated specific strategies for manufacturing both finished and unfinished solid hardwood flooring. These methods include the use of Appalachian lumber because of its superior color and tighter grain, and techniques such as consistent kiln drying, straightline ripping, eased-edge construction and precise lumber stacking.

“From beginning to end, our production process is rooted in quality control,” Poland said. “We choose the best lumber, use state- f-the-art equipment and technology and employ the most skilled professionals in the business to give the customer an exceptional product.”
