On the design center’s front lawn sits Standard Plywoods’ (parent company of Anderson Hardwood Floors) original veneer lathe and hot press dating back to 1946, which survived a 1954 fire in Fairmont, N.C., but could not endure this October’s fire at the Anderson plant in South Carolina. Stainless steel sheets will soon be suspended between the two pieces of equipment simulating the manufacturing process of the veneer through the lathe and into the press, emerging as flooring boards.
