Vancouver, Wash.—To supplement its current certification programs, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) has announced the launch of its Apprentice/Basic Skills Training Programs.

The programs are designed to educate new or existing employees who have had no formal training in the cleaning industry, noted Dane Gregory, the Apprentice/Basic Skills division chair.

New programs that were approved by the organization’s board of directors are Apprentice/Basic Skills in Carpet Cleaning Training; Commercial Carpet Cleaning; Upholstery Cleaning; Floor Care, and Ceramic Tile, Stone and Masonry Cleaning.

Optional Formats

All programs are offered as a classroom lecture or in formats such as CD/ROM, DVD and video tape. “In the near future, we will also offer online instruction,” said Carey Vermeulen, IICRC president. “This is one of the most exciting programs to come from our board in many years and it is the first real training from IICRC that provides optional formats for learning.”

The association’s board is currently accepting applications from industry professionals who wish to be presenters. In addition, it is taking submissions for programs. Applications and copies of approval policies are available at the association’s headquarters.

Variety Of Presenters

“It is anticipated that many professionals will apply to be approved presenters from different areas of the cleaning industry, including product manufacturing reps, distributors, facility trainers and executive housekeepers,” Vermeulen concluded. “We also look forward to it to being very popular with facility executives, school districts, the hotel and hospitality industry, and the building service contractor industry.”
