‘It’s Tough To Compete’ Letter Struck A Nerve

I have been overwhelmed by the response to my letter, “It’s Tough To Compete,” in the June 26 issue of Floor Covering News. I had no idea the problem was so widespread.

Perhaps it is time to tell manufacturers and distributors how we feel. Write letters, send e-mails, make phone calls. None of us wants to give up on our business and I would hope our suppliers would not want us to give up.

A very large problem across this country is the sales tax that is not imposed on Internet sales. We need to write or call our state and country representatives in government and ask for legislation to enforce the laws that require people to pay use tax based on the cost of the products purchased by mail or on the Internet.

We need to join forces to bring profitability and prosperity back to our businesses. I’m going to do my part and I hope everyone who reads this will as well.
