Regupol AG track surface at Franklin & Marshall College
Twenty-three years ago, the Franklin & Marshall College athletics department invested in a new International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) certified outdoor running track. They selected a Regupol AG running surface due to its maximum comfort underfoot and its advanced shock absorption properties.

Years of tough Northeast conditions and regular use by Franklin & Marshall students, as well as the Lancaster County community, have not threatened the tracks’ ability to perform. Extensive testing proved that minimal work would be required to keep the track in tip-top shape. Only the top surface was in need of updating. Most running tracks need to be fully stripped and resurfaced after 10 to 15 years. The Regupol AG track did not need a full overhaul – even after 23 years.

“This track has proven its value year after year,” says Ted Schmid, director of grounds at Franklin & Marshall College, part of the team that originally selected the Regupol AG track. “Our athletes benefit from the durability and integrity that the Regupol track provides each and every day.”

The original substrate, engineered and planned by Regupol was determined to be excellent condition, allowing Franklin & Marshall to enjoy significant savings – financially and by not sending spent material to the landfill. With the updated surface, Regupol provided another five year manufacturer warranty, treating it as a new track.

Regupol is the favorite track surface of Olympic Champion Usain Bolt. Bolt ran his two world-record breaking 100m & 200m races on a Regupol track surface at the 2009 World Championships. The track offers athletes comfort and injury reduction because of its’ unique polymeric composition and polyurethane wear layer while delivering a fast competition surface on race day. These features provide slip resistance and force reduction as well as better shock absorption. The tracks’ IAAF-certification allow the college to be eligible to host regional events for their sports teams.

Franklin & Marshall College was established in 1787 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It currently enrolls about 2,300 students and is home to the Diplomats.
