NWFA Installs Floors in Habitat for Humanity Home
Article Number: 8667

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (December 5, 2013) – Employees of Prestige Flooring located in Fenton, Missouri, worked with the National Wood Flooring Association to install 900 square feet of flooring in a Habitat for Humanity home on November 18. The home, which is located in University City, Missouri, is located near both Prestige’s offices and the NWFA’s headquarters.

The crew members installing the flooring each earned their NWFA Certified Professionals installation certification during the project. NWFA’s Director of Education and Certification, Brett Miller, supervised the project and the testing at the Habitat site with the assistance of Middle Tennessee Lumber Business Development & Technical Advisor, Wayne Lee.

“This is the first time the NWFA has combined a service project with certification testing,” stated Miller. “It provided the participants with a real-world installation situation, while offering a more realistic testing scenario. Of course, the added benefit is that the labor and materials are being donated toward a good cause.”

All of the materials used during the testing and the installation were donated by NWFA member companies. Underlayment material was donated by Fortifiber Building Systems Group in Fernley, Nevada, and the wood flooring for the project was donated by WD Flooring in Laona, Wisconsin.

The NWFA’s next community service project will benefit Operation Finally Home, which benefits wounded veterans. The project will take place on April 19 in Nashville, following the NWFA’s Wood Flooring Expo.

NWFACP certification testing will be offered numerous times throughout 2014, and the NWFA will continue to pursue other community service options in conjunction with certification testing in the future. The full 2014 training schedule, including certification testing opportunities, is available at http://www.nwfa.org/tech-ed-schedule.aspx.
