Eagan, Minn.—In an effort to increase its territory, Herregan Distributors has acquired the distribution areas of Selfs, based in Wichita, Kan., for all Mannington resilient floor products. Herregan will now be the exclusive distributor of Mannington residential and commercial vinyl, VCT, wood, and laminate flooring in the following territories: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Kansas. Herregan, headquartered here, has branch locations in Chicago; Milwaukee; Des Moines, Iowa; Omaha, Neb., and Kansas City, Kan., and will now open a branch in Oklahoma City. “We are a Mannington distributor in a number of areas,” said Ken Herriges, Herregan’s CEO. “By purchasing Selfs, we are now the exclusive Mannington distributor for Kansas and western Missouri.

We are also taking over the exclusive Mannington distributorship for the state of Oklahoma which is a totally new territory for us. It is quite a boon for us.” Herriges noted the acquisition will increase Herregan’s sales by approximately 10%. Selfs, a sundries and tool wholesaler, will remain in business. “Selfs will remain selling its tool and sundry lines, as well as ceramic floor tile and carpet cushion. So it is staying in business,” he said. “We’re just taking it out of the resilient floor covering business. “We are taking on Selfs’ warehouse personnel in Oklahoma City where we will now have a sixth branch,” he added, “as well as a couple of salespeople it had in Oklahoma.” Herriges noted, despite a difficult time the past few months, Herregan’s future looks bright. “We are coming off three very good years—1998, 1999 and 2000 were very good years.

Like everyone else, 2001 for us was a bit of a challenge but we survived it. In the last three months, we think we bottomed out because October, November and December were the first months for the year where we had an increase over the same months from a year ago. “We’re quite optimistic about this year because of the way things seemed to have turned around,” he concluded. “With the addition of this new territory and the Harris Tarkett line, we are pretty optimistic about having a good year in 2002. It seems there is a bright ray on the horizon.” In addition to Mannington, Herregan distributes Formica laminate flooring, Porcelanite ceramic tile, VPI base, MPI carpet cushion, Riverside ULAY, Accuply, Harris Tarkett and More-land underlayment, as well as several sundry lines.
