Fritztile Terrazzo Tile Outperforms Resilient Floors in Acoustical Ratings
Article Number: 8024

When designing any interior space, acoustical performance is an important factor in every material that is chosen. Recently, Fritztile by Expanko Inc’s terrazzo tiles were tested for acoustical values and boasted scores higher than many of the most common “quiet” flooring options. Fritztile features a unique combination of beauty, hard surface performance and high acoustical ratings.

Fritztile was tested for sound transmission, in accordance with ASTM-E 492-90, which covers the laboratory measurement of impact sound transmission of floor-ceiling assemblies using a standardized tapping machine. Fritztile received a remarkable 54 dB rating, a higher rating than recycled rubber flooring (Expanko’s Reztec, 36 dB), and the same rating as half inch homogenous cork flooring (Expanko’s Heirloom, 54 dB).

Fritztile’s impact insulation was also tested, according to ASTM E490-02, which covers the laboratory measurement of airborne sound transmission loss of building partitions such as walls of all kinds, operable partitions, floor-ceiling assemblies, doors, windows, roofs, panels, and other space-dividing elements. Fritztile received a rating of 43 dB, significantly outscoring both recycled rubber (Expanko’s Reztec, 8dB) and cork/rubber flooring (Expanko’s XCR4, 36 dB).

“Fritztile is the hard surface floor that the industry needs for a wide range of projects requiring a low maintenance, high value product that contributes significantly to the acoustical engineering of the building.”, Expanko Inc’s Sr VP of Sales and Marketing, Randy Gillespie, reported, “Fritztile’s polyester resin gives it a unique ability to absorb sound that can bring any space a little closer to peace and quiet.”
