Sphinx by Oriental Weavers is gearing itself up for the International Home Furnishings Marketing in High Point, N.C., by having more than 50 new looks available. One of the more notable introductions is Summerstone Falls, which will make its debut at High Point. The 100% handcrafted wool rug collection was developed in partnership with Woolrich, a 175-year-old apparel and woolen fabric marketer and manufacturer.
“The Summerstone Falls collection is a perfect addition to the Woolrich Home product lineup,” said Dennis Marxen, vice president of international and home licensing. “Being handcrafted of 100% wool means they are a natural choice and fit for the Woolrich brand enthusiast.” The initial collection will feature approximately eight rugs in various textures, with each product having a retail selling price around $399.
The Woolrich Home Furnishings Division already consists of other home furnishing categories such as casegoods and upholstery; wall decor rugs; decorative accessories, tabletops, mouse pads and coasters, wallpaper, table linens and top-of-bed linens. Kim Reynolds, Sphinx’ public relations manager, said the other big launch is the company’s latest product in the National Geographic Tropic Winds area rug collection.
Bali is a handcrafted flatweave construction consisting of all jute and leather and evokes the romance and allure of the exotic isle. Handwoven in China, a 5X8-ft. retails for $299. “It’s culturally inspired, casual living at its best,” she said. Three other collections—Legends, Supernatural and Grandeur—will make their first High Point appearance, and Reynolds said two other collections will be unveiled at the week-long show, which gets under way Oct. 20.
“We will also be expanding the Andy Warhol line.” Legends uses a “special” hard-twist construction to create the “timeless elegance of antique Persian carpets” and incorporates rich hues of red, gold, ivory, green and black along with updated traditional patterns to bring Old World charm to the 21st century. Made in China of 100% wool, a 5X8-ft. will retail for $399.
Supernatural is a wool collection handcrafted in India and features a super-high pile “that is ultra-soft and a pleasure underfoot,” Reynolds said. The line features transitional and geometric patterns. As with Legends, a 5X8-ft. product retails for $399. Finally there is Grandeur, made from 100% wool in China, it was created specifically for a value price point of $199 for a 5X8-ft.
“But,” she noted, “it is rich in style and tells a complete color and design story with open traditional patterns in five base colors and a panel design. It complements today’s variety of fabrics and home furnishings.” For more information about Sphinx by Oriental Weavers, call 800/832-8020.
