Dalton—With costs continuing to rise on just about everything , finding a highend looking product at an economical price can be a challenge. Kim Barta, brand manager for
Shaw Living, the rug division of
Shaw Industries, said end users and dealers only need to look at the company’s latest addition to its Reverie collection. “These rugs have a very high-end look and feel to them but are very economical, considering a medium-sized one retails for about $229.”
The 22 new patterns, all made of olefin, feature a double-point construction, meaning twice as much material can be woven in at the same time, making for a much heavier hand. They also utilize a drop-stitch weaving technique for a carved appearance that can also be felt. “The end result,” she explained, “are rugs of exceptional value and durability.” As for the designs, Barta said they maintain the relaxed, easy living style of the other products in the Reverie collection.
“The new designs include both transitional and contemporary patterns that capture the sophistication of urban lifestyles.” These new designs are just some of the products Shaw Living will be showcasing in High Point, N.C., during the
International Home Furnishings Market , starting Oct. 20. Shaw will also have the latest products from its two most popular licensees—Kathy Ireland and Mary-Kate and Ashley.
Kathy Ireland’s First Lady collection received an update over the summer with five more designs—Persian Tapestry, Grand Expressions, Stately Empire, Royal Countryside and Timeless Elegance—all of which will be displayed in High Point. Each rug is crafted with Shaw’s EverTouch branded fiber, which gives the product a soft hand while still be durable.
“Every woman deserves to be the ‘First Lady’ in her own life and home,” said Ireland, who is CEO and chief designer of her company, Kathy Ireland World-wide (KIWW). “This comprehensive collection of classic designs pays tribute to the incomparable spirit of women everywhere.”
The other Kathy Ireland collection is named after its inspiration: Quilts of Gee’s Bend, which are hand-sewn “works of art” created by residents of Gee’s Bend in rural Alabama. “These artists are brilliant and their designs are treasures,” Ireland said. “Bound by faith and family, these women invest their precious time raising children, working for their families and sewing together old scraps, making objects of amazingly refined, stunning and abstract beauty.”
Woven of “soft, lustrous olefin,” she said the line blends traditional African-American-inspired patterns and bright hues with a modern, abstract feeling. The seven designs have “a buttery-soft hand, brilliant colors and a carved, sculpted appearance.” For its other brand,—mary-katyandashley—six new designs will be featured. While they still target the younger home decor market, Barta said they can work in trendy interior settings for all ages.
“These new rugs offer exciting, vibrant color combinations with striking, bold design elements.” Each of the six rugs—Boogie Blocks, Earth & Sky, Doodles, Fabstract, Lotta-Dot and Wallflowers—are printed nylon and come in three standard sizes with a 5X7-1/3-ft. retailing for $199.
