CLINTON, S.C.—Anderson has become the first hardwood flooring mill to have all its products certified under the Greenguard Environmental Institute’s (GEI) Children & Schools, the non-profit’s toughest, most stringent level of testing.
Don Finkell, Anderson’s president, said “This achievement not only reinforces the company’s commitment to optimum indoor air quality (IAQ), but also ensures these products are eligible for low emission credit under the respective commercial and residential LEED certification programs.”
To achieve the Children & Schools certification, Anderson hardwoods were screened for more than 10,000 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and verified to meet the required California chronic reference exposure levels including 13.5 parts per billion formaldehyde. To maintain certification, products are re-tested on an ongoing basis.
“Anderson’s achievement of our Children & Schools certification demonstrates a solid commitment to occupant health and sustainability,” said Henning Bloech, GEI’s executive director. “Though IAQ affects everyone, children are especially at risk to the effects of chemical exposure. Selecting Children & Schools certified products is an easy way to ensure children and other sensitive individuals are surrounded by products that have been scientifically proven to be healthier for indoor air.”
