EarthWerks: From vinyl to hardwood, premium placed on sustainability
Article Number: 5074

Its name is the first clue: EarthWerks—Flooring Inspired by Nature. For this company, green is not just a marketing tool; it’s a concept that balances its responsibility to the environment with that to the bottom line.

EarthWerks has been producing strikingly realistic looks in residential and commercial luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) and planks for many years. Its solid vinyl planks continue to show how the beauty and feel of natural woods can be captured with the realism industry insiders say is truly unique and saves more forest for the trees.

And EarthWerks’ eco-friendly approach extends to the newest products in its line of engineered hardwood floors, which are carefully selected and sourced to proactively choose responsible species, including those that are plantation grown, where they are controlled and the area managed for proper land use and sustainability.

EarthWerks began thinking green before the sun came up on the subject. It stresses environmental stewardship and promotes sustainable design from internal procedures to manufacturing. In addition to energy-efficient manufacturing facilities, internal recycling programs and ISO 14001, 9001 certification, the company uses up to 50% recycled material to minimize the impact on the environment.

“Our sustainable design commitment even extends the useful life of our products with recycling and reuse initiatives,” said Jerry Gerson, spokesperson. “It is why we developed our Green 4 Life program: “Reclaim, Recycle, Reuse.”

The Green 4 Life program assists customers in reclaiming qualifying flooring material with low VOCs by connecting with worthwhile projects like flooring for schools and other institutions by recycling or reinstallation. The company’s revolutionary eco-friendly SprayWerks Flooring Adhesive helps the process because it sprays on quickly, sets in as little as 15 minutes and only requires a single sprayer so the floor goes down up to 70% faster.

Not only does the company work to help the environment, but also to generate goodwill as a community partner. It continues striving to enhance the cradle-to-cradle approach with this unique program so material will not reach a landfill or incinerator, thus giving vinyl a new useful life.

EarthWerks—Flooring Inspired by Nature is a division of Swiff-Train. “In our 70 years of experience, we have covered the globe in sourcing and developing products and programs that meet or exceed the criteria,” Gerson said. “The rare beauty of nature; the real benefits of sustainable vinyl; the unique nature-inspired tile and plank designs that capture the intricate graining of wood; the rugged spirit of stone and marble; and the enduring performance, value and eco-friendly quality of vinyl. Everything we do—our people and products—is focused on sustaining our environment while helping you grow a healthy business.”
