Mullican Flooring has taken on an industry-leading role in producing beautiful, affordable floors that align with recent mandates involving building construction and environmental stewardship standards. Earlier this year, the company introduced a new line of products called Green Haven, a domestic, prefinished solid hardwood flooring that has been certified as 100% PURE by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

The first national manufacturer to offer a solid domestic FSC-PURE product, Mullican unveiled Green Haven in 16 different styles earlier this year and plans to introduce a certified FSCPURE engineered line this fall.

The FSC is an international organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. A certified FSC-PURE floor, among other things, means it has been made entirely of wood originating from FSC-certified forests. To achieve FSC certification, a product and its manufacturer must meet FSC managerial, environmental and social standards as evaluated and certified by accredited, independent third parties. Certificate holders are audited at least once a year and must fully comply with FSC requirements to achieve and maintain certification.

If a builder is constructing an Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) structure, one of the best ways to earn points is to use a minimum of 50% wood-based materials and products that have been certified by the FSC’s Principles and Criteria for wood-building components. The more FSC-certified products used in the building project, the more credits that can be accrued. Builders often package hardwood flooring with other wood components such as FSC general dimensional framing, subflooring, wood doors and finishes in an effort to collect credits. Using Mullican’s Green Haven products will help builders meet that requirement.
