Davis & Davis acquires Glen Eden
Article Number: 4674

CHATTANOOGA, TENN.—Davis & Davis Rugs has completed its acquisition of Calhoun, Ga.-based Glen Eden Wool Carpet. Davis & Davis will continue to operate its manufacturing facility here as well as the Glen Eden plant in Calhoun. Both companies are privately held and terms were not disclosed.

Glen Eden is now wholly owned by Davis & Davis and will be run as a division with Stewart Hay, former Glen Eden president, serving in the same capacity, noted Dick Miller, president of Davis & Davis.

“You’ll find Glen Eden products at many of the most prestigious addresses in the world, such as Buckingham Palace and the White House,” Miller said. Being able to add that tradition and prestige to the Davis & Davis portfolio places us in a very strong competitive position when the market rebounds.”

He noted that the existing Glen Eden brand structure complements the Davis & Davis portfolio. Specifically, Glen Eden has established a formidable brand presence in high-end residential and executive aviation broadloom and rugs, while Davis & Davis’ strength resides in working with residential designers and, through its Luzern brand, commercial contract and hospitality. “The two brand structures mesh exceptionally well with little redundancy.”

Both companies’ collective customers will continue to engage with the brands they’ve trusted over the years, “except now they’ll have access to a broader and deeper range of products and services as a direct result of the acquisition,” Miller said. “We’re already working on new products, which neither organization would have been able to produce on its own.”

These new products are a result of Glen Eden’s dye house coupled with the Davis & Davis CYP technology. “These two ‘just-intime’ resources enable production of desirable custom products close to the delivery time seen in off-the-shelf items,” Miller said. “Our CYP capability along with our robust traditional tufting lineup utilizing our 126 color pomset as its centerpiece will feed three very distinct markets with very similar products through three established brands.”

The collective product portfolios and brand structure are being evaluated now and will be realigned as appropriate to best leverage existing brand equity in each target market segment, Miller said, noting that the Davis & Davis, Luzern, Glen Eden Wool Carpet and Natural Elements brand structures will continue to be supported.

“We are working through the process of integrating the sales force,” he concluded, “again leveraging strengths as appropriate for the various geographic and industry segments to which we market our products.”
