Metroflor green rating system to be unveiled in ’09
Article Number: 3964

Metroflor realizes flooring has not been forgotten when it comes to today’s green-minded consumer. Constantly looking for ways to reduce its environmental footprint, the company prides itself on eco-conscious practices, offering green products and its continual environmental evolution.

Currently, Metroflor’s Konecto is making headway in the sustainability segment, offering glueless installation— no VOCs and reduction of particles in the air for improved IAQ—over nearly all existing floors, reducing waste that would otherwise go directly into a landfill. Konecto also features an advanced finish—as do many of Metroflor’s products—which reduces the needs for cleaners and polish, again reducing VOCs.

And, to make it even easier for the busy consumer who wants green, Metroflor is putting a rating system in place for all its products showcasing their environmental attributes in an easy-to-follow format.

As part of its green initiative, the program, to be launched quarter one of 2009, will feature logos to identify Metroflor’s environmental commitment. Products will also be highlighted on a special page of the mill’s Web site, www.metroflorusa.com, as well as in separate POP materials. The company is also in the process of having its products FloorScore certified.

Metroflor is reviewing cradle-to-cradle recycling, where end users can ship back product to its facilities—all of which are ISO certified—to be reused in new product. This process would complete the cycle and reduce the need for more petroleum production for raw materials. Talks with waste management companies are also under way to establish drop off points for used Konecto flooring.
