Article Number: 2721

Scottsdale, Ariz.—As the green movement continues to grow throughout the industry, more than 120 professionals gathered recently at the Arizona Floor Covering Association’s (AFCA) “Your Green Intelligence Report,” held at the Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa here.

Speakers for the presentation included Deb Twillman of Shaw IndustriesAnso Nylon division, Michelle Meronk of tool company A. Bottini Enterprises and Diana Kempton of distributor Arizona Wholesale Supply. Twillman and Meronk navigated through topics such as: “Sustainability: the goal of all green efforts;” “Green is the new gold standard;” “Attracting and closing the Green customer;” “The many shades of Green,” and “LEED—from commercial to residential.” Twillman closed with “10 great ideas to jump start your own Green efforts in your business,” asking the crowd, “How will you step up?”

Peggy McCarthy, AFCA’s executive director, said, “The ‘Your Green Intelligence Report’ was extremely well received and definitely a start in the right direction.” She noted green bags were given away to everyone to use when shopping rather than paper or plastic, Arizona Wholesale Supply bought a green pen for everyone and all went home with a few pages of ‘green’ terms, some LEED information, information on environmental Web sites and material to research green products and processes.

“We all know that manufacturers are clamoring to present their products as eco-friendly,” she said. “So we are going to have another dinner in 2008.” This all leading to the AFCA’s “Green Product Table Top Expo 2008” to be held at the Phoenix Airport Marriott on March 13. The event invites manufacturers and distributors to come and show what they are doing in the green movement effort and includes table top exhibits, cocktails and dinner.

“The expo will be limited to manufacturers and wholesalers meeting AFCA’s criteria and is a first-come, first-serve event as space is limited,” McCarthy explained. She added a number of manufacturers are already committed to taking a spot.
