Over 9,000 square feet of Vitra Colorline Series tile was installed in Camelback High Schools Phase I expansion project to accommodate large population growth in the district of Phoenix, Arizona. Porcelain mosaic tiles from Vitra proved to be the perfect solution for the school board committee, looking to deter the recent rise in graffiti art from adorning the newly remodeled bathrooms.
Architectural Resource Team, Inc. (ART), a full-service architecture, planning and interiors firm, was asked to design two, three-story buildings to house a population that had been divided into three small schools. Each school was to follow a district model for personalizing the ever-enlarging high school campuses.
The challenge for the schools lavatories was to find a product that would be durable enough to withstand the commercial setting while deterring graffiti. Vitras Colorline Mix 3 and Colorline Mix 6 were a unique solution because of the products great durability, and the ability to create a random mosaic design. With a tight budget to consider, Vitra tile offered a timeless quality for the campus lavatories.
The 1 x 1 mosaics allowed the designers to soften the line of geometry and complement the overall design motif. The tiles brilliant hues of blue, tobacco and gray, installed with a dark grout, gave the designers just the right pallet to create a captivating canvas and discourage budding graffiti artists from altering the areas design.
Terri Scheatzle, the projects interior designer from ART, has also specified Vitra tiles for new and upcoming phases of construction on campus. A new library building and classrooms will feature the Colorline series with varying color mix combinations. Vitra Colorline Series is distributed by
