The Commercial Construction Show, owned and produced by D&D Communications Group LLC, displayed the premier “Think Green!” Centerpiece at this year’s show in Rosemont, Illinois, exhibiting how hospitality, healthcare and retail professionals are designing and building for the sustainable future.

Located in the center of the exhibition hall floor, this 2,400 square foot display showcased three 600 square foot centerpieces and a common-area entrance space. The hospitality, healthcare and retail centerpieces each demonstrated how green products and processes can be used in commercial applications. The products were labeled on the showroom floor, and every product used in the centerpiece was saved for future reuse.

“Green has been the buzzword around the industry and at every trade show,” said David Corson, president of D & D Communications Group. “We wanted to display green building products in real-life applications, so that people could see what it means to be green, and where green products can be used in retail, hospitality and healthcare designs. Instead of just showing the products, we decided to demonstrate their use by labeling the products throughout the centerpiece.”

Shubin + Donaldson Architects designed the Think Green! Hospitality Centerpiece spotlighting ecologically-responsive material options in a mock hotel room with sustainably-produced furniture, flooring, wall-coverings, state-of-the-art beds and more. Russell Shubin, the principal in charge of coordinating the centerpiece, worked closely with Jon Hutson and Rick Seireeni of Brand Culture on a collaborative effort to coordinate signage, graphics and logos for the centerpiece.

The Think Green! Healthcare Centerpiece, spearheaded by Ashen + Allen Architects, featured a mock-hospital patient care room divided into three zones: patient, family and staff, incorporating low flow rate water utilities, low VOC materials, and high performance lighting and insulation systems. Design team members Chris Flick, Alison Blessing and Suzanne Drake utilized sustainable materials to design the healthcare centerpiece with the intended effect of reducing patient stress, accommodating family visits and providing staff necessities to improve the health of hospital patients.

Designed by Jeff Roark and Nancy Everhart of Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, the Think Green! Retail Centerpiece included a vignette of a prototypical branch bank interior including a teller line and check stand, covering 600 square feet of floor space. The centerpiece showcased environmentally safe solutions for a number of retail-related items, from flooring to wall systems to furniture, while emphasizing the urgency of the ecological cause as a whole. The display featured green design elements that are sustainable, practical and easily obtainable, as well as economically viable for store owners and developers.

The Commercial Construction Show, a high-powered trade event designed to serve the needs of design, construction and facilities maintenance professionals, brought together three existing D&D events: Hospitality Construction Expo, Healthcare Building Expo and Retail Construction Expo. The two-day event offered three executive summits and AIA-accredited seminar programs for the hospitality, healthcare and retail industries. The 2008 Commercial Construction Show will be on June 3-5 in Orlando, Florida. For more information visit: www.cc-show.net, or call: 770-781-2501.
