Hakatai's Uncut Glass Tile Repeating Patterns Play Key Role In Mid-Century Revival
Article Number: 2135

Hakatai Enterprises Inc., importer and distributor of glass mosaic tile, recently supplied Space Bank Design with 400 square feet of its new Uncut Custom Repeating Pattern TX617, featuring its top-selling Cartglass Classic Series, for the restoration of a mid-century home in Altadena, California, a suburb in the foothills of Los Angeles.

Josephine DeSanto, owner of Space Bank Design, specializes in the restoration and preservation of homes built in the 1950s and says that she has used Hakatai mosaic glass tile in “almost every project,” since discovering www.hakatai.com some five years ago. This year, when Hakatai launched its new Repeating Patterns program, the company promptly delivered its first order to DeSanto and Space Bank Design. For the modernization of her own mid-century home, DeSanto selected four different colors of ¾” x ¾” mosaic glass tiles from the Cartglass Classic Series — Porcelain, Meadow, Pale Grey and Hail — which she installed on all four walls of the kitchen.

“I’ve received a really great response,” said DeSanto. “I have my house on the market, and when people come in, they are blown away. I’ve had close to 100 people come through, and the project has been really well received. The scale of the pattern is so good. It was not too big and not too intricate. We definitely achieved the desired effect.”

Hakatai’s new Uncut Repeating Patterns program features a selection of 59 uncut mosaic glass tile patterns, all of which are hand-assembled based on color selection. Virtually endless design options are possible using Hakatai’s Cartglass Classic, Aventurine and Luster series of ¾” by ¾” glass tiles as well as the Saix Fantastix Series, a sleek and elegant collection of 5/8” x 5/8” glass tiles.
