Hollywood— Mohawk Industries added to this year’s greenroom at the 79th annual Academy Awards, contributing both environmentally friendly carpet and laminate. Though the wall color was deep chocolate, the 2007 Oscar’s backstage celebrity hangout was, for the first time, as green as could be. The award show’s first-ever environmental effort included offsetting carbon emissions, promoting recycling, reducing waste and using green and sustainable materials to decorate the greenroom.

Mohawk supplied the project with its EverStrand polyester carpet, made from recycled plastic soda bottles. Mohawk’s laminate, also used in the design, was produced with 90% recycled wood materials not suitable for other applications.
