Port Washington, N.Y.—Prestige Mills has expanded its product offerings by
acquiring Larsen Carpet, the well-known high-end producer of all wool floor
coverings. Larsen, which was founded in 1974 by the highly regarded designer,
Jack Lenor Larsen, had been under the ownership of the American division of
Switzerland’s Ruck-stuhl AG for approximately 15 years. Peter Feldman, CEO of
Prestige, said the transaction included the Larsen name, inventory and
distribution rights.
While the purchase price was not disclosed, he said the addition will
increase company business by as much as 15%. The Larsen operation will be run
under the Prestige banner, which also does business through its Concepts
International and Weave-Tuft divisions. “The Larsen line is ultra
contemporary,” he explained, “and we had a need for this type of product.
That’s what makes this acquisition a perfect fit for us as it truly fills a
void in our product offerings.” “Larsen’s elegantly styled all New Zealand
wool carpets have been a long time favorite of designers worldwide,” he said.
“Many of the original designs by Mr. Larsen are still in production and we
plan to keep them as well as the name, which is a big plus.” He noted
Larsen’s high-end reputation will be maintained, in both the types of products
bearing its name and dealers who carry the line. “We plan on utilizing some of
Larsen’s design people as well as our in-house staff with the objective of
keeping the elegant, yet contemporary look.”
As for retailers carrying the Larsen line, Feldman said the products are for
those dealers who specialize in the very high-end of the residential market. The
Larsen product range, including new items, along with goods under the Prestige
label and its two other divisions will be on display at Surfaces 2002. For more
