Think you know your sports trivia? Could you use an extra $1,000 in your wallet? Then register now for a chance to test your sports knowledge against your fellow Surfaces attendees and, ultimately, Howie Schwab, star of ESPN’s popular “Stump the Schwab” program. Schwab will be FCNews’ special guest on Wednesday, Feb. 7 and Thursday, Feb. 8, at Booth #7146 on the main level in Hall G.

Here’s what’s in store: Schwab will host a series of “Stump the Schwab” games throughout the day on Feb. 7 and on the morning of Feb. 8. The winners will then square off against each other with the victor taking on Schwab himself on the afternoon of Feb. 8. Defeat the “Sultan of Sports Trivia” and win $1,000. However, if Schwab comes out on top, FCNews will donate $500 to the Floor Covering Industry Foundation and $500 to the Make a Wish Foundation, the charity with which Schwab is actively involved.

There are only 12 available spots to compete in “Stump the Schwab.” If you are interested in playing, register by emailing associate publisher/executive editor Steven Feldman at fcnsteve@ yahoo.com. Include name, address and phone number along with some words as to why you should be picked to compete. In addition, we ask that you include a brief paragraph on what you like and dislike most about FCNews. The names of 12 qualified contenders will be drawn about a week before Surfaces.

But that’s not the only way to win FCNews’ money at Surfaces. Throughout the first two days of the show, come by our booth, cast your ballot in FCNews’ Award of Excellence contest and Schwab will ask you one sports trivia question. Answer correctly and walk away with a crisp $20 bill.

And just because you don’t have a good trivia mind doesn’t mean you can’t stop by our booth and talk sports with Schwab, who also serves as ESPN’s coordinating producer and statistician. Cast your Award of Excellence ballot and ask him anything.

Schwab has held various positions at ESPN since coming on board in 1987. Network officials felt so confident with his sports knowledge that they decided in 2002 to develop a quiz show around his talent. He is also a regular contributor to ESPN’s Cold Pizza as the Couch Potato, informing sports fans what events to watch on TV on weekends. In addition, Schwab also serves as a member of both the Dick Butkus Award Committee and The Jim Thorpe Award Committee. Stump the Schwab appears on ESPN Classic weekdays at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
