Article Number: 1594

Baja, Calif.—A 40-year veteran of the flooring industry, Donn Robert Holmer passed away on Oct. 14 at his home in Rosarito Beach following a long illness. He was 59.

Holmer worked as a carpet manufacturer and distributor in San Diego for four decades. He started out working for his father’s company, R.N. Holmer, a carpet manufacturer which later became Holmer Carpets. Holmer then worked in wholesale distribution after the company stopped making carpet in the 1970s.

“He was well known in the flooring industry as a great salesman,” said his son, Robert, who continues to operate the company. “Dad was brilliant in areas of marketing and deal making. He was a friend to all in the industry.

“He will be remembered with great affection as an old school person who believed a handshake had honor and meaning,” he explained. “Sometimes this backfired, but he never changed his innate belief in the goodness of people.

“Dad was known for his willingness to help others in any way possible,” Robert added. “He was a loving, honest, warm, charming, witty and humble gentleman in all ways.”

Holmer is survived by his companion, Maureen; son, Robert (Christine); grandchildren Abegail and Robert; stepson Scott Wilske and his son, Brandon; and stepson Roderick Wilske (Arlene), and their children Joseph and Dana.

The family asks contributions be made to the Rady Children’s Hospital, 3020 Children’s Way, San Diego, Calif., 92123.
