This exciting addition to Moulding Solutions’ existing line of prefinished mouldings fills an area in the floorcovering industry that often goes overlooked and avoided.

Distributors, dealers and contractors can now effectively offer their customers a value added product that installs with minimal disruption to the construction or remodel timetable.

The prefinished stair treads are formulated to match many popular prefinished wood floorcovering products and are 1” thick with available lengths ranging from 32” – 48” and longer. Preassembled mitered treads are also available for open staircases.

The initial introduction of prefinished treads includes all colors from more than 300 different floorcovering products on a base species of Red Oak, White Oak, or Maple. More species will be added in the future to include exotic and domestic species.

The familiar design of the prefinished stair tread is intended to mimic the installation of an unfinished tread but removes the hassle and inconsistency that results from finishing the tread on site. Installers will recognize the familiar profiles to fit closed (no mitered ends) staircases, single side open (one mitered end) staircases, and double side open (two mitered ends) staircases.

The prefinished tread is convenient for homeowners and builders alike because of the reduced timetable necessary before the tread can be walked on. One of the primary advantages of a factory finished floor is being able to use it immediately; why should the staircase be any different? With prefinished stair treads, this difference has been eliminated.

With five coats of a high build, high solids finish, these stair treads are made to last. The consistency of a machine applied finish allows the stair tread to be evenly coated along its entire length, resulting in a beautiful addition to any home.

Moulding Solutions uses only environmentally friendly, VOC compliant finishes cured through various energy and chemical based methods. This finish also has an added UV absorber to delay the effects of “ambering” or the yellowing effect resulting from age and sunlight. The resulting product will last for years to come but should the treads ever need refinishing, a screen and coat can be performed on site.

The benefits of prefinished floorcovering have long been realized by floorcovering professionals, builders, and consumers. Now, the same benefits can be realized on stair treads. The value of prefinished stair treads added to a home is measurable in much the same way as floorcovering.

Prefinished wood brings greater value than carpet and is easier to maintain. The messy stain and finish process previously associated with finishing a staircase is now eliminated and allows the staircase to be used almost immediately instead of waiting for the finish to dry. The odor problem encountered in occupied houses is eliminated. The walls of a stairwell are no longer the targets of installers’ rags and the factory applied coating will last much longer than a site-applied coating.

Installation of these treads is recommended to be performed by a qualified, competent carpenter. Always use construction adhesive and screws to securely fasten the treads to the stringer and be sure to comply with local building codes.
