Ocean City, Maryland (September 22, 2006) --- The
O.C. Floor Gallery has presented the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company with $15,000, proceeds from its ‘Floor It…But Not On The Highway’ campaign, during a special presentation at the flooring company’s showroom on U.S. Route 50 just outside Ocean City. The presentation culminated a high-profile traffic safety public awareness campaign that was launched in the spring to support the allied law enforcement community’s traffic law enforcement during the 2006 summer season.
“This campaign represents a strong community commitment we have made on behalf of our customers in support of the entire public safety network, including the firefighters and paramedics who provide round-the-clock emergency medical services,” stated Chris Williams, President, O.C. Floor Gallery. “It’s our way of saying thank-you for a job well done,” he added.
Floor It…But Not On The Highway was launched in May during the annual Cruisin Weekend as a prelude to the official kickoff of the summer driving season, the long Memorial Day holiday weekend. The campaign distributed an informative brochure entitled Tips for Highway Safety that provided safe travel tips for drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians and others affected by laws addressing helmet, safety belt and child safety seat use. The campaign captured the attention and support of several Ocean City businesses including Jiffy Lube, The Stowaway Grand Hotels, and the popular nightclub, Seacrets, which featured ‘Floor It…But Not On The Highway,’ on its radio station, Ocean 98. The Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce, Ocean City Police, and the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company also distributed the brochures.
“With so many visitors coming here from the western shore, we felt it was important to reach those folks as well to inform and educate them about the local ‘rules-of-the-road’ before they arrived,” stated the O.C. Floor Gallery’s Chuck Jackson, who developed the campaign.
The check presentation represented money donated to the campaign, including a portion of every residential flooring contract signed at the O.C. Floor Gallery between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The OCVFC was selected as the recipient of the funds to benefit not only those who live in Ocean City, but also the millions of people who visit the resort every year.
“We take great pride in giving to these local heroes who give everyone who visits this town the peace of mind of knowing that during an emergency, help is on the way,” Williams said.
