Congoleum Adds ‘Options’ To DuraCeramic, New Line Allows For Unlimited Designs

Congoleum's Dura-Ceramic Line
Mercerville, N.J.—Since Congoleum Corp. launched DuraCeramic in 2003, it has been one of the resilient manufacturer’s most popular products. The positive response to the “engineered ceramic” line has prompted the company to introduce DuraCeramic Options, which puts a new twist on the original to give end-users the ability to use it more like the real thing.

Options uses the same patented process as the flagship product in a 16-in. tile format. The difference is that each tile is embossed to create four 4-in. beveled-tile visuals.

As Leonard Ludovico, vice president of product and styling, noted, this is where the “clever new format called Options” comes into play.

With Options, the product can be used as one 16-in. tile, or “with one swipe of the blade,” scored in half for two 4X8-in. tiles, or scored again to obtain four 4-in. tiles. In addition, the product can be scored at angles and not just along the grout lines.

This will not only “bring out the artistic and creative side” of the end user, but allows the product to be used in areas where traditional ceramic tile goes, such as backsplashes, baths, spas, entryways and kitchens. “It can go in virtually any room in the home,” Ludovico noted.

In addition, Options can be combined with the original DuraCeramic. “The customer’s first option is to use the 16-in. four-tile visual format by itself for a joint-free installation,” he explained, “but it can also be paired with the original for a stylized look of mixed large and small tiles.

“This simple, yet clever capability,” Ludovico continued, “is how DuraCeramic opens up a whole new world of design and simplified installation. Options results in unlimited and highly imaginative custom floor and wall designs—including checkerboards, diagonals, diamonds, weaves, insets, random patterns, borders, etc.”

The initial Options collection consists of 13 popular colors from three collections in the original series—Sierra Slate, Earthpath and Heirloom. This color coordination is one of the keys in allowing Options to be mixed with DuraCeramic for a personalized, custom design.

Options is installed using the same guidelines as DuraCeramic by using DuraSet Adhesive. Also, if the application requires grouting, DuraCeramic Premixed Acrylic Grout is to be used. Available in 16 designer colors the grout further expands the customization possibilities, he added.
