To solve this problem, 21st Formulations has developed Skin MD Natural, an innovative sheilding lotion that protects skin from harsh chemicals, adhesives and solvents as well as a host of other skin irritants. “It’s very helpful to prevent the damage caused when working with chemicals, common cleaning products, solvents, adhesives and hundreds of other irritants that anyone working in the flooring industry is exposed to,” said Enrique (Ike) Alabata, director of research and development for the company. Skin MD is not a typical hand or body lotion, noted Pete Grimaldi, director of marketing. “Most lotions only attempt to artificially add moisture to the skin whereas Skin MD is designed to create an invisible, protective barrier that helps keep harmful chemicals out and natural moisture in while letting Mother Nature provide the necessary healing to repair skin at its deepest levels. It is not a replacement for gloves where they are required, however, it is ideal for those people who don’t use gloves but probably should.” “A conventional lotion is not formulated to protect the skin like a shielding lotion does,” stated Dr. Lisa Benest, a board certified dermatologist in Burbank, Calif. “Conventional lotions only add surface moisture to temporarily alleviate the dryness or itching. Shielding lotions are an effective dry skin treatment because they bond with the skin and protect it for long periods of time. With this protection in place your skin keeps its own moisture in and has a chance to use this natural moisture in the deep layers of the skin to heal itself.” Skin MD will not come off in water but rather wears off naturally after a few hours. “The formula for Skin MD is a result of cutting-edge chemistry,” explained Alabata. “This new substance, along with natural ingredients, has a moisture factor 10 times higher than glycerin which has been the standard in which all humectants are measured.” For Linda Lemke of Largo, Fla., Skin MD has, “given me my life back. I’ve been an upholsterer for 35 years but the work was wreaking havoc on my hands. The fabric samples often contain formaldehyde.” Her condition became so serious that she was forced to retire after suffering from anaphylactic shock caused by exposure to the chemical. “The pain and discomfort was too unbearable,” she noted. “I’ve tried more than 30 different lotions and creams,” Lemke concluded. “After one application of Skin MD, my hands stayed moist for 90 minutes.
