Article Bologna, 25 September 2014 - A blend of contrasting inspirations based on the traditions and locations of industrial archaeology has led to the creation of BACKSTAGE, the new collection presented by Flaviker at Cersaie 2014. The varied graphic surfaces of terracotta are reinterpreted with the contemporary appeal of concrete. Ceramic materials are transformed into pure creativity, breaking away from minimalist rigour to play a key role in unique spaces.

Flaviker will be taking part in Cersaie in Bologna from 22 to 26 September, where it will be showcasing the results of its research efforts and experimentation with new design solutions. BACKSTAGE comes in a surprisingly complete range, including new sizes and decorative solutions that break away from the rigour of strict layouts and allow for interesting combinations of materials and surfaces.

BACKSTAGE
Backstage, the new collection presented by Flaviker at Cersaie 2014, draws from contrasting inspirations based on the traditions and locations of industrial archaeology. Backstage derives from unconventional choices and the desire to experiment, combining paths and materials to arrive at extremely contemporary solutions. The coexistence of opposites often reveals a new way of looking at things: the varied graphic surfaces of terracotta are reinterpreted with the contemporary appeal of concrete; ceramic materials are transformed into pure creativity, breaking away from minimalist rigour to play a key role in unique spaces.

The rectified coloured body porcelain tile collection is designed to meet the needs of professionals and homeowners. Four hybrid colours in various shades reflect an unexpected combination of clay and concrete on ceramic panels with various modular dimensions, ideal for use on floors and walls. The surfaces come in 2 versions – satin and a textured finish designed specifically for exterior use. The range of decorative inserts, including original 8.5x8.5 cm hexagons, mark a shift away from the classic rectangularity of ceramic tiles to allow for utterly new compositional layouts.

Backstage from Flaviker can be used to create surprising new tiling solutions, ideal for a range of architectural contexts including private spaces and unusual applications. It displays a skilful interplay of contrasts between elements and materials and coordinates with the main Flaviker collections.

DAKOTA offers a different interpretation of wood-effect porcelain with aesthetic qualities that are enhanced by signs of ageing and wear. Developed from observations of alder wood planks, DAKOTA stands out for the natural imperfections caused by ageing, such as scratches, stains and micro-perforations, which become distinctive aesthetic features with an extremely realistic visual impact.

DAKOTA
The DAKOTA collection is the new ceramic frontier from Flaviker, inspired by the North American landscape at the time when men were colonising the great open spaces using materials provided by the land itself. DAKOTA is a new interpretation of wood-effect porcelain with aesthetic qualities that are enhanced by signs of ageing and wear.

The collection is inspired by planks made of alder, a timber that is widely used in construction and interior finishings and displays natural imperfections caused by ageing such as scratches, stains and tiny holes made by woodworm. Powerfully realistic, the DAKOTA collection reproduces the wood defects as the most distinctive elements of the ceramic surface.

The product’s vintage look is in full accordance with the latest interior design trends, particularly given the choice of four sophisticated colours and the sizes that include not only 80 cm and 120 cm strips but also the visually striking 40x170 cm and 20x170 cm ceramic slats.

Flaviker large-format tiles are produced using Auto-Leveling technology. A very small degree of convexity guarantees maximum bonding to the substrate after installation as the tiles self-level under their own weight, ensuring perfect flatness even in the case of dry-set installation.

With a strong focus on sustainable building, exemplified by DAKOTA and its 40% content of recycled material, Flaviker is committed to meeting the requirements of the LEED international rating system (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) which promotes the design of buildings with a low environmental impact.
