| Article | Atlanta—Shaw Industries is on a mission to create better leaders not only in the flooring industry but in the personal lives of each retailer who goes through the Shaw Academy of Leadership Training (SALT) program. To date, nearly 300 people have successfully gone through the three-day program. “This program is about life leadership, not simple business acumen,” explained Scott Humphrey, Shaw’s manager of leadership development and training services. “It is unlike any other program you have attended.” While the program may be broken down as 70% personal and 30% professional leadership it may be deceiving since any impact on personal leadership will naturally find its way into one’s business practices. “There is a great focus on work/life balance,” said Humphrey. “This program has the potential to make one a better spouse or significant other, parent, friend, community/church leader and a more successful employer and overall leader.” “Scott and his SALT team are incredibly brilliant,” noted Mark Woods of Ideal Flooring in East Falmouth, Mass. “They really worked together to orchestrate the whole program. I’ve never been through anything quite like it. It was a real eye-opener not only in regards to business but also on a personal level. “There are things I have to work on but that always comes with change,” he added. “The SALT program was a real life changing experience for me,” concluded Allan Pollard of Floors West in Avon-dale, Ariz. “It couldn’t have been scripted any better. I would recommend it to anyone who runs a business. I was very impressed with it.” The SALT program is open to all Shaw Flooring Alliance dealers or front line managers and will be offered during the following dates: March 26 to 29; July 30 to Aug. 2, and Sept. 24 to 27.
