| Article | Dalton—Karastan is entering 2006 with an array of new collections and additions to already popular lines and will have them all on display in its permanent showroom (#3-A-1) at the upcoming Interna-tional Atlanta Rug Market, Jan. 18 to 21. “Karastan has struck the perfect balance between refined elegance and casual living with its latest rug creations,” said David Hardy, the company’s senior vice president of sales. The Artworks Collection, is part of a new group of what Karastan calls Studio designs. Five patterns comprise the initial Artworks lineup, with each “representing a departure in looks for us,” he noted. The rugs are hand crafted using a combination of yarns to reate “shimmery colorations and a strong textural effect.” The mill’s popular English Manor, which Hardy said “continues to be a rock-solid sales performer,” has been given a boost with new styles such as Canterbury, Nottingham and Coventry Trellis Red. Canterbury is distinguished by a center medallion on a striated ground of spice red. The jewel-toned design is framed in a border of intarsia-like motifs. Nottingham features a patchwork decoration interpreted from classical Persian rug motifs. Featuring the same jewel-tone, space-dyed colors as Canterbury, it can be teamed with it or just about any other English Manor product, he explained. Coventry incorporates a trellis as its central motif in a classic de-sign that is not too stuffy, allowing it to be used in everyday living, Hardy said. As with previous English Manor rugs, the new ones undergo Karastan’s luster-wash process to soften the hand and enrich the colors of the New Zealand worsted wool. Another addition comes in Karastan’s Ashara with Black Agra. Axminster woven, the rug is colored in a palette of “lush” hues, and has a deep jet ground to help amplify the colors.
