Rock Solid’s latest masterpiece highlights the lavish private residence of George Schaeffer, CEO and President of OPI Products, Inc., the world leader in the salon professional nail care industry since 1981. Rock Solid went to extraordinary measures to flawlessly complete this entirely free-form, 40’ x 20’ glass mosaic tile pool and overflow spa. Schaeffer, a legend in the professional beauty industry, had a vision for his custom pool and worked closely with Reed throughout the process to make it a reality. Schaeffer wanted to feature custom celestial elements cropped into the field tiles of the pool and spa, with the entire installation realized using paper-faced, ¾” x ¾” glass mosaic tiles from Bisazza in an aqua-themed custom gradient. To accomplish the astrological design component, Reed and Schaeffer went back to the books to find just the right tiles, and discovered another premium collection from Bisazza. In a super high-end offering, Reed and Schaeffer discovered special glass-encased, 24-carat white and yellow gold mosaics in the same size and format as the gradient. The addition of the gorgeous 24-carat gold mosaic glass tiles makes a dramatic statement, but it certainly upped the level of expertise required by Reed and his team at Rock Solid when installing this high-profile water feature. “Jimmy’s an artist,” said Schaeffer. “I had an idea in my head. I wanted to have an astrological theme with a sun and a moon, and he worked with me to make it happen. He helped suggest the type of tiles we should use, and then did an incredible job applying my vision. The performance has been excellence and it seems very durable. We’re very happy. Jimmy can use this project as a reference anytime he wants.” Without a single right angle at any transition, most notably where the walls meet the floor, Reed used an almost unheard of level of care to ensure the entire project featured seamless transitions. With each paper-faced Bisazza sheet consisting of 12 rows of ¾” x ¾” glass mosaics, Rock Solid set each sheet into the thin-set mortar and then razor-cut free all 12 rows so they could each be adjusted left or right, up or down, for perfect individual grout joints. This procedure was magnified in all locations where Rock Solid designed and set the custom astrological design elements in concert with the field tiles. Rock Solid delicately installed a custom yellow gold mosaic tile sun, a beautiful white gold crescent moon in the deep end (10-feet) and then placed shimmering white gold stars throughout. In the natural stone overflow spa, Rock Solid installed a white gold mosaic circular-shaped outline done for Schaeffer to represent the “silver lining” found in every cloud.
