| Article | The National Institute of Building Sciences Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011 Beyond Green™ High Performance Building Awards. These unique awards recognize initiatives that shape, inform and catalyze the high-performance building market, as well as the real-world application of high-performance construction practices. The Beyond Green™ High-Performance Building Awards program is open to all and offers three entry categories: High-Performance Initiatives, High-Performance Buildings and High-Performance Products. The 2011 winners are: Category A: High Performance Buildings Accident Fund Holdings, Inc. Headquarters Honor Award - First Place for a Historic Reuse United States Land Port of Entry in Calais, Maine Honor Award - First Place for New Construction Redding School of the Arts Honor Award - First Place for a New Academic Complex The Bertschi School Living Science Building Award of Merit for Distinction in a Sustainable Addition Category B: High Performance Initiatives Philadelphia University Sustainable Design Program Citation for Distinction in a Sustainable Design Program Category C: High Performance Products Adura Technologies' Wireless Lighting Control System Citation for Innovation in New Product Design for Sustainability Recipients will be honored at a luncheon ceremony before Members of Congress and staff on March 22, 2012. Additional presentations will be made to students of architecture at Catholic University of America. "We are pleased to see the expansion of high-performance buildings and the programs and products that support their development. The awardees are excellent examples of the leadership necessary to assure our nation’s buildings achieve high-performance building goals," stated Institute President Henry L. Green, Hon. AIA. The jury for the 2011 awards represents the perspective of both the public and private sector building industries. Jury members were: Helen English, Past Executive Director, SBIC; Ron Burton, Vice President for Codes, Standards & Regulatory Affairs for BOMA International; Tom Herron, Communications and Marketing Manager for the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC); James Leach, President of Wonderland Hill Development Company; and Charles Matta, FAIA, Director of Strategic Programs & Resources in the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS), National Office of Design and Construction. This year’s Platinum Partner is Southern California Edison. Additional program sponsors include the Institute and the National Fenestration Rating Council.
