In the mid 1970s, Warren Tyler, author of FCNews’ “Salesmanship” column, was not only a highly successful retailer, he practiced what he now preaches in his columns, such as empowering consumers with practical knowledge. These free events, he said, helped his business by generating future sales from those who attended. At this 1976 event, more than 220 consumers came out for a decorating seminar by Debbie Brown, who was the senior editor of House & Garden magazine.
