| Article | DALTON—Summit Maintenance Solutions of Tri-Cities, Wash., has become the 1,000th participant in the Carpet & Rug Institute’s (CRI) Seal of Approval (SOA) program. As an approved SOA Service Providor, Summit Maintenance demonstrated its exclusive use of CRI tested as well as certified products and equipment, and a commitment to a high standard of service and customer satisfaction. Owner Dennis Torres said he applied for the SOA program exactly for those reasons; to demonstrate his commitment to providing customers with “proven equipment and the safest and most effective chemicals. Our customers are aware that we don’t just clean their carpets. We actually know the percentage of soil removed. That level of effectiveness says a lot about our concern and proactive approach to a safer work environment.” Prior to owning Summit Maintenance, Torres worked for Bruker Elemental, the company that developed the handheld XRF devices used in SOA testing to measure the precise amount of soil removed from the carpet. XRF stands for X-Ray Fluorescence and was first used by NASA to test components for the Space Shuttle program. “Working closely with XRF instruments convinced me of CRI’s accuracy in detecting the different elements that are present in carpets as well as numerous other objects,” he added. It has been a little more than six years since CRI launched the SOA program. In addition to having signed its 1,000th provider, the program has approved more than 675 solutions, vacuums and deep-cleaning extractors and systems.
