Pound
Ridge, NY, Oct. 9—Merchandise Mart has cancelled NeoCon New York 2001, whille
the fall New York Home Textiles Show, Ex-Tracts and Surtex Gallery have been
postponed. The shows were cancelled or postponed due to a lack of space at New
York’s Jacob Javits Convention Center as a result of the September 11
terrorist attacks.
In September, both Flooring America and the International Design Guild cancelled
their fall meetings. Flooring America had scheduled a meeting for September 13
to 16 in Vancouver, B.C., while the IDG’s meeting was to have been held from
September 19 to 22 in California.
NeoCon New York was cancelled because the Federal Emergency Management Agency is
using the hall in the Javits Center that was to house the show from November 1
to 3. There were no guarantees that the hall would be available in time for the
show.
George Little Management, which manages the Home Textiles Show, Ex-Tracts, and
Surtex Gallery made the decision to postpone the show after concerns were voiced
by a substantial number of participants. The shows were scheduled to be held at
the Javits Center from October 12 to 15. There will be an alternate market held
November 8 to 10 in conjunction with the New York Gift Cash & Carry Show.
