| Article | Feb 10, 2010: LATICRETE, a global leader in the manufacturing of innovative systems for the installation of tile and stone, has been the materials supplier of choice for some of the most high-profile tiled swimming pool projects around the world. In the city-state of Singapore, the LATICRETE Southeast Asia team secured proprietary specification for the elaborate, already famous infinity-edge swimming pool that spans all three skyscraper hotel towers on top of the new Marina Bay Sands® Singapore. The cantilevered rooftops 150 meter (492 foot) vanishing-edge swimming pool installed with LATICRETE® products is just one part of the signature design program for the rooftop Sands® SkyPark. Boston architect Moshe Safdie also made it possible for 360° views at 200 meters (656 feet) above Singapore from the observation deck and plaza. LATICRETE products have been on quite a roll with contemprorary architecture in Singapore, including Safdie’s almost unbelievable design for the Marina Bay Sands Singapore to host the largest elevated vanishing edge rooftop pool and, then have it stradling three 55-story skyscapers. The Sands SkyPark pool appears as one vessel that stretches the length of three Olympic-sized swimming pools, but in fact consists of three stainless steel enclosures, each connected by stainless steel moveable terraces that work just like an expansion tile grout joint does for the buildings. Over the stainless steel with an exterior continuous submersion application, LATICRETE specified an epoxy-based system that included LATAPOXY® 300 Adhesive for the tiles and the revolutionary LATICRETE SpectraLOCK® PRO Grout for durability, stain-resistance, unmatched consistent color and beautiful, flush tile grout joints. For the installation of the rooftop pool tiles, LATICRETE Southeast Asia was capable of providing local and single-source supply for the complete system specification, and the tile and contractors benefited from LATICRETE technical support on-hand at all times to solve problems or offer technical advice. LATICRETE specification experts used the direct adhered method to install 254,000 stone and glass mosaic tiles over stainless steel. The swimming vessels substrates used LATAPOXY® 300 Adhesive to install 300mm x 300mm (12” x 12”) stone tiles insterspersed with colorful glass tiles and artful glass inserts on adjoining hot tubs and wading pools. The Sands® SkyPark swimming pool tiles were grouted with LATICRETE® SpectraLOCK® PRO Grout, a revolutionary tile grout that has allowed tile designers to obtain the quality and performance they want with a tile grout product that’s easy to work with and easier to maintain. LATICRETE SpectraLOCK PRO Grout offers unmatched consistent color, strength, durability and resistance to staining in an easy to use formula with superior workability and open time characteristics. When the tile grouting was completed, the LATICRETE specification called for a sealer at all pipe penetrations, changes in planes and expansion joints. In the continuos submersion application of stone and glass tiles, LATICRETE 9118 Primer was used to gain a stronger adhesion and bond strength with LATICRETE Latasil™, a 100 percent silicone sealant to add strength to the tile assembly.
