| Article | North Canton, Ohio—Employing state-of-the-art technology to reproduce the look of natural stone “up to a level never before achieved in the industry,” Laufen has introduced its innovative line of double-pressed porcelain products called Stone Evolution. With Stone Evolution, the tile goes through a press, is decorated and then sent through another press before entering the kiln. Not only does this double-press produce the effect of natural stone, it seals the surface so the porcelain is less porous and more durable, said a spokeswoman for the company. “The product has a coefficient of friction/wet higher than .60 and is commercially-rated for both indoor and outdoor heavy traffic areas. “While the product resembles natural stone in appearance, Stone Evolution is superior to natural stone in many ways,” she explained. “It is less porous, has greater hardness and mechanical resistance and has greater resistance to staining and freezing.” Stone Evolution consists of two series—Solaris and Jupiter. The colors for Solaris are Pearl, Gold and Ivory, while Jupiter comes in Dusk, Tundra and Shadow. Both series are offered in a variety of sizes. The Multi-Format option is packaged with two 8X13-1/4-in. sizes, two 13-1/4-in. tiles and three 13-1/4X21-1/4-in. tiles per carton. Stone Evolution is also available in 13-1/4X 21-1/4-in. and 21-1/4-in. sizes, as well as 13-1/4-in. mosaics. The Multi-Format option and the additional sizes mean that the design choices for Stone Evolution are virtually limitless, she noted. With its homogenous dimensions and thickness, the installation of Stone Evolution is easier than that of natural stone. “Once installed, the only maintenance required is routine cleaning.
