| Article | Thomasville, N.C.—Recognizing the important role underlayments play to the feel and longevity of floor coverings—including laminates—Quick-Step has developed a number of patented systems—Unisound and Uniclic Combi-Floors—to ensure the right product is used in the right situation “What is especially noteworthy about Quick-Step’s underlayments is,” said a company spokesperson, “they feature the industry’s only dual flap installation system.” At the end of each roll, there are two polyethylene film flaps used to sandwich the start of the next roll. “This produces a watertight seam,” the spokesperson noted. “Each roll has its own tape already attached so there’s no danger of running out of adhesive during installation.” Unisound is Quick-Step’s premium underlayment as it “significantly dampens the sound of foot traffic and falling objects. It also dampens the reflected sound of high heels due to its pressure and shock absorbing capabilities which also give the floor covering the added feel of a solid wood floor. “This underlayment will ensure a level laminate installation and can be used under any Quick-Step floor,” noted the spokesperson. Unisound is available as a separate underlayment or as an integrated part of the floor covering. That means, on certain designs, it comes pre-attached to the back of the planks, allowing for an even faster installation. Uniclic Combi-Floor dampens noise, provides a level surface and can be used with any Quick-Step floor. It retails for about half the price of Unisound. In addition to the two underlayments, the laminate mill offers the Quick-Step Screen, a special plastic film which can be installed to protect the floor from rising moisture. “This screen is not needed if Unisound or Uniclic Combi-Floor is installed,” said the spokesperson.
