| Article | GAINESVILLE, VA – Traditionally held in the spring, this year’s David Allen Company Golf MS Tournament, which has benefited the local chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for the past 15 years, will for the first time be held in the fall. The 16th annual charity event will be held on Friday, September 17th at 10 a.m. at the Heritage Hunt Golf and Country Club in Gainesville, VA – located 40 minutes outside of Washington, D.C. Participants will partake in a complete program of special events, including 18 holes of golf, lunch, and raffle prizes, and will conclude with an awards banquet. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. The tournament was first organized by husband and wife, Phil and Kathy Halcomb. Phil Halcomb is the Virginia Vice President of the David Allen Company, which focuses on design and installation for ceramic tile, marble, stone, terrazzo, and epoxy flooring. Kathy Halcomb was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis over twenty years ago. MS is an unpredictable neurological disease that interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body. The symptoms of MS can be varied and are often unpredictable, ranging from numbness and imbalance to paralysis and blindness. There is currently no cure for MS. In its first year, the tournament raised $800 to support local programs and services for people affected by MS. Over the years, the tournament has continued to grow, as well as the work of the National Capital Chapter. In the past five years alone, the tournament has raised over $290,000 to support the Chapter’s work in the areas of counseling, education, employment, information and referral, advocacy, and emergency financial assistance for individuals and families affected by MS. The tournament continues because of Phil Halcomb’s belief that “every one of us can make a difference.” J. Christopher Broullire, president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter stated, “We are proud to have a partner like the David Allen Company in our work to end multiple sclerosis.” The cost of registration is $325 for a single player and $1,300 for a foursome.
