Article LG Hausys Surfaces showcased the versatility and far-reaching benefits of its HI-MACS® branded solid surface in Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects design program for the new 500-seat dining hall at Syracuse University. LG Hausys provided over 150 sheets of its NSF and GREENGUARD certified HI-MACS materials for a seamless, easy to clean and attractive food service application. The enhanced thermoformable properties of LG Hausys HI-MACS allowed for the effortless fabrication of custom fit solid surface, the ideal solution for the complex geometric shapes of the various food service stations inside the LEED Silver-rated Ernie Davis Hall Dining Facility.

LG Hausys’ custom color program was used to develop HI-MACS in the color Milkweed for the cafeteria tables, bar tops, register stations and the conical-shaped food service features at the integrated student dining hall. The style, durability and functionality of the HI-MACS collection synthesized to provide the ultimate solution for the architectural program challenged by ambitious geometrical shapes. And the custom HI-MACS Milkweed color was used to help the design flow in harmony throughout the Syracuse market-concept dining facility. Fabricated with precision by Sterling Surfaces just outside Boston, Massachusetts, LG Hausys HI-MACS flexible, versatile characteristics held the dining hall program together and facilitated the overall architectural design of the mixed-use building.

The materials specification process considered the constant wear and tear that the volume of students and faculty would place on the dining facilities primary surfaces. The selection of LG Hausys HI-MACS solid surface materials was an excellent long-term investment for Syracuse University. The HI-MACS collection offers unmatched durability and performance for commercial food service environments with an easy to clean, non-porous and stain-resistant solid surface that inhibits the growth of bacteria. LG Hausys HI-MACS seamless surfaces result in hygienic, healthy and safe commercial food service applications including cafeterias and kitchens.

Prized by architects and designers for long-lasting beauty, LG Hausys HI-MACS solid surface provides remarkable life-cycle costs benefits with the renewable surfaces ability to be simply sanded and buffed for a look that’s brand new. Easy to maintain, eco-friendly and attractive, the exceptional durability and performance of LG Hausys HI-MACS® solid surface materials translates into long-term value for the Ernie Davis Hall Dining Facility at Syracuse University.
