Carpet mills are developing more textures, colors and patterns via state-of-the-art technology. Choices from the soft surface side continue to grow, especially on the high end. The following continues FCNews’ sampling of what’s available.

Milliken

The mill takes residential patterned broadloom to the next level with 12 new, unique products, noted Mark Clayton, business manager for Milliken Residential. “Customers are invited to unleash their inner designer and ‘imagine’ their floor as a foundation from which to build their interior design dream, ‘explore’ the exciting possibilities offered by the new collection and ‘create’ stylish and inspiring looks with ease and confidence.”

The Imagine Collection features six multi-level cut/loop tufted designs with Milliken’s patented Convergence technology. “This blend of tufting and dyeing technology results in patterns that create a truly elegant platform for any room of the home,” he said. “Each of these products features Invista’s Tactesse fiber for a soft feel.”

Nourison

“As a vertical manufacturer, we’re able to start from scratch to create the looks and colors the high-end boutique market needs,” said Gerard O’Keefe, vice president of sales. “These customers appreciate luxurious, sustainable fibers, like New Zealand wool, and added details such as hand-carving.”

The mill’s latest high-end offering is the Manhattan Collection featuring 23 Wilton woven offerings. Each is constructed of New Zealand wool, which has been specially dyed for an antique “abrash” effect. A “revolutionary” hand-embossing technique adds textural depth, O’Keefe said.

Shaw

Modern Classics is a high-end broadloom and area rug collection offered by Shaw Floors and the company’s rug division, Shaw Living. The first collaboration between the company’s divisions features broadloom as well as coordinating woven area rugs. The collection offers pattern clarity, durability, softness and easy maintenance, noted Emily Morrow, Shaw’s director of color, style and design. Modern Classics designs are woven of Marquesa solution dyed olefin.

“Modern Classics is the perfect fusion of the ancient woven textile designs blended with today’s contemporary classics,” Morrow explained. “From traditional florals to trellises to fashion-inspired animal prints, and from dramatic rich colors to light ethereal neutrals, this collection is truly inspired.” Modern Classics products are exceptionally durable, she noted. “Shaw is the only manufacturer that offers a wear warranty for stairs and halls.”

According to Kathy Young, Shaw’s director of creative services, Modern Classics offers an upscale visual for the discerning consumer as well as a strong-marketed program for Shaw retailers. “Not only are the styles worthy of the runway and sure to catch the consumer’s eye, but Modern Classics is a total marketed program featuring an in-store display. It’s a true collaboration between broadloom and area rugs—and it serves the upscale consumer niche by offering an abundant selection of on-trend styles.”

Stanton

Stanton recently launched a 50-SKU collection of sisal and seagrass. These new products highlight several different weave structures in natural sisal colors and light taupes, honey golds, chocolate browns, light neutrals as well as weaving three hues together to form blended colors, according to Jonathan Cohen, Stanton’s COO.

“The new sisals will sport medium- and large-sized loop products for today’s more sought after looks,” he said. “Atmosphere, a newly created wool with sisal warp/weft yarn, was created in a chunky loop for the soft feel and appeal of wool. Classic seagrass weaves were also carefully selected for a well-rounded offering complete with square-foot pricing for custom rugs that are fabricated in our state-of-the-art facility in Calhoun, Ga.”
