Article It’s a new name, a new look and a new feel. A long overdue retooling of the FCNews Web site took place as winter turned to spring with the goal of becoming the most interactive site among industry publications. Not only interactive, but informative with content that will not be found anywhere else.

It begins with a new name: fcnews.net. Readers who have logged on to floorcoveringnews .net will still have that option, but from this point on we will be referencing our Internet presence as fcnews.net.

Most important is content. Of course, we will still publish many of the main stories that appear in the magazine. But the site will also serve as a vehicle to publish articles and features that do not find its way into the print version, and also allow us to direct readers to an area where longer versions of a particular story may reside. As an example, log on to fcnews.net right now for more extensive, online versions of our high-end category reports.

The new site will also allow us to provide the latest news to our readers. If an important story breaks, we have the capability to post it that same day, if not in a matter of hours.

In addition to expanded editorial coverage, look for the FCNews blog. Initially, it will serve as a home to familiarize readers with some of the functions of the site, but it will ultimately be a vehicle for interaction. More casual than editorials and columns, the blog will feature industry musings and conversations, similar to a “Letter to the Editor” with feedback. We will soon provide a forum for readers to interact with each other, either to comment on a particular issue or seek help from their peers.

The site also comes equipped with video capabilities. Look for visual accounts of trade shows, conventions and interviews with industry executives.

One of the features about which we are most excited is the ability to offer moderated chats. For those unfamiliar with this, FCNews is planning to arrange top-level industry executives or experts to enter a chat room for an hour to answer any questions our readers may have. The concept is similar to a Q & A forum, only digital. FCNews site administration will monitor all questions before they are posted to ensure each is relevant to the selected guest and appropriate for the audience.

Also in the works is an option to view the magazine in PDF format, with advertisements. View an entire issue in the familiar format with a subscription number.

Fcnews.net is a work in progress. We welcome your comments as we embark together on this journey.
