Every June, Dick Kelly, BASF’s residential merchandising manager, arranged a weekend in New York for carpet executives, which included a Sunday baseball game at Yankee Stadium in the George Steinbrenner suite. Awed by Dave Winfield’s home run in the 7th inning that doomed their chances of winning the pool, are from left, Wayne Godwin, president of BASF Corp.’s Fiber Division; Doug Foster, chairman of Salem Carpet Mills, and Peter Spirer, chairman of Horizon Industries.
