Article | DALTON—Dalton State College students enrolled in MGNT 4701: Strategic Management and Policy are getting a taste of the flooring industry from the inside. Seniors working toward a bachelor’s degree in business are using Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) as a model for learning. “CARE was chosen in part because students recognize the growing importance of sustainable business models,” said Marilyn Helms, professor of management at Dalton State. It is an opportunity for seniors to apply all four years of study to an interesting yet relevant case study, she added. According to Helms, students, working in small teams, meet with the case study client, then conduct independent research that explores CARE’s market, study its competition, and find ways to create business for the organization before ultimately presenting their findings to the whole class. “What CARE is doing— finding ways to use post-consumer carpet and divert it from landfills—is exciting in that it is, in many ways, a developing field that is open to multiple paths forward,” said Georgina Sikorski, CARE’s executive director. “We are anxious to see what the Dalton State students recommend, and we are honored to have been chosen as a case study for them.” For more information about the course, call 800.829.4436. |
