Article ADAIRSVILLE, GA.—Beaulieu Commercial was a recipient of the 2009 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Center for Resource Solutions. The awards ceremony, held in Atlanta, recognized green power initiatives from companies, organizations and individuals.

Beaulieu Commercial received the award because of its green power purchases. According to president James Lesslie, the company purchases 9 million kilowatts of green power for its facilities, reducing emissions by over 12 million pounds. That is the equivalent of taking 1,300 cars off the road or electrically powering 1,000 average American homes.

“People don’t always realize that in the U.S., the largest source of carbon-heavy greenhouse gasses comes not from automobiles but from coal-fired electric power plants,” Lesslie said. “Supporting clean sources of electricity is a sound business decision and crucial in reducing our climate risk.”
