| Article | NEW YORK—As Karastan’s 2007 “statement maker” and founder of the nonprofit Joyful Heart Foundation, actress Mariska Hargitay— along with more than 600 celebrities and guests—recently attended the Joyful Heart Foundation’s second annual gala fund-raiser event here. Guests walked on carpet provided by Karastan. Prompted by her work on TV’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (SVU), Hargitay founded the Joyful Heart Foundation in 2004 to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse. At the recent ’09 gala, Dick Wolf, creator of the Law & Order franchise of television shows, was presented with a special award celebrating the 10th anniversary of SVU and honoring his role in helping to bring attention to the subject of sexual abuse. “This is such a worthy cause,” said Connie Berry, director of marketing for Karastan. Donating the Caribbean blue carpet that set the stage for the fundraiser, she said the mill was honored to be able to “Join the Joyful Revolution”— the night’s theme. The event raised more than $1.3 million throughout the night, which included cocktails, dinner and a live auction that brought in over $400,000 alone. Singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow was the guest performer of the night as actors Debra Messing and Christopher Meloni emceed the event. |
