| Article | PORTCHESTER, N.Y.—For the fifth consecutive year, RD Weis participated in the New York City Marathon by providing carpet for the Willis Avenue Bridge, which connects the island of Manhattan to the Bronx. The contractor’s team laid down Assurance II, a densely tufted, cut pile carpet from J&J Industries, which was dyed orange, to the specifications of the supplier and the New York Road Runners Club. Over 3,000 feet of broadloom was installed in cold and rainy conditions the morning of the race. “At the New York City Marathon the Willis Avenue Bridge was made easier for the racers with a carpet installed that very morning,” said Randall Weis, president of RD Weis. “Five hours, one carpet and 40,000 runners—the eyes and feet of the world were on us.” After the marathon, the carpet was removed and recycled by Carpetcycle, in accordance with RD Weis’ environmental wishes. A certificate of authenticity will be presented to the running association in commemoration of its environmental stewardship, finished Weis. |
