Article Boa Franc/Mirage has shown a passionate commitment to protecting natural resources since its earliest days. From participating in reforestation projects to recycling at our facilities, at Mirage we are always looking for new ways to protect the Earth while improving our products and caring for our customers.

At our facilities, we run a rigorous wood and waste recycling program throughout our operations. Every bit—100%—of wood waste is repurposed. While 10% is used to fuel our boilers, the rest is sold and transformed into products such as logs and pellets for heating, wood fiber panels and farm animal bedding.

Mirage also takes concrete steps for better air quality. Our finishes do not release VOCs or formaldehyde into the environment. Mirage Lock products are in full compliance with CARB certification to meet California’s airborne toxic control measure that reduces formaldehyde emissions. Our products meet the industry’s strictest pollution-control standards.

The company cares about reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To that end, nearly 85% of our purchased volume of domestic species comes from sawmills within 500 miles of our plant.

Mirage products are FSC Mixed Source and PEFC certified. That means they come from certified producers committed to meeting healthy forestry management standards.

On top of that, the company ensures full compliance with the latest amendments to the Lacey Act—U.S. legislation to ban the use of illegally sourced natural resources and species.

We’re always working to offer environmental products that are qualified for LEED credits from the U.S. Green Building Council and the Canada Green Building Council. In 2007, we developed Mirage Lock, a glueless engineered hardwood floor that can be easily moved and reused. It is hypoallergenic and can be installed cleanly, with no dust from sanding or organic vapors. Mirage Lock is made of a high density fiberboard (HDF) core containing wood made from 100% post-industrial recycled fiber. The ultra-thick wearlayer uses six times less hardwood than conventional 3/4-inch solid board to cover the same floor surface.

The company’s other hardwood flooring products also offer real environmental benefits. From its end, Mirage Engineered features a wearlayer using four times less hardwood than conventional 3/4-inch solid board for the same surface while our Mirage Classic collection comes in various board lengths to help minimize the waste of natural resources.

With environmental concern in mind, Mirage launched Breza Bali Coco from the Mirage World Aromas Series in 2009. This product has a global inspiration and an exotic look but uses local species which reduces the overall carbon footprint required to produce this floor.
